Taiwan Ranks 28th As Global Press Freedom Hits Low

Taiwan ranks 28th globally and second in Asia in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders, dropping four places from last year. The report, based on surveys of media workers in 180 countries and territories, points to political polarization and declining trust in media as factors shaping Taiwan’s environment. Globally, press freedom has fallen to a 25-year low, with half the countries surveyed classified as having difficult or very serious conditions.
