Taiwan Gov't, Civil Society Win Freedom House Beacon Award for Democracy

Taiwan's government and civil society won the first-ever Freedom House Beacon Award for their efforts to protect democracy in the country. The award noted its resilience to rising pressure from China. Taiwan's representative to the U.S. Alexander Yui accepted the award on behalf of the government, while nonresident fellow at the Taiwan Economic Democracy Union Chiang Min-yen accepted the award on behalf of civil society.
