MSCI Raises Taiwan Weighting
REPORTER:
Taiwan’s stock market made gains after a major US index provider raised Taiwan’s rating in its three key indexes.
Taiwan’s weight in the emerging markets mix increased by 0.25 percentage points to 26.85%. That’s up from 19.40% in August last year. In the All Country World Index, it gained 0.05 percentage points to end at 3.13%. Analysts expect the upgrade to bring billions of dollars in foreign capital to Taiwan. The Taiwan Stock Exchange says it’s become an important platform for international investors seeking exposure to high-quality Taiwanese companies. But experts warn the influx of hot money could also lead to more volatility and exposure to the global market.
The changes will take effect at the end of August.
