REPORTER:

Taiwan has established a cross-agency mechanism to block goods linked to forced labor following US concerns about the issue.

The economic and labor ministries will work together to gather information and review cases linked to forced labor. A 12-member cross-agency committee will determine whether imports in violation are barred. The move comes after the US announced new tariffs of up to 12.5 percent on 80 countries over lapses in forced labor enforcement, with Taiwan receiving 10 percent. US customs last year detained Giant Bicycle's Taiwan-made products over forced labor. Giant is the only Taiwanese company hit with a forced labor order, and it denies the charge.
