VP Hsiao Visits Italy on Secret Trip for Democracy Conference

Taiwan's Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung are in Italy for the Ventotene Conference for Freedom and Democracy, which brings together global leaders to counter authoritarianism. Hsiao's attendance was kept confidential until her arrival to prevent Beijing from blocking the trip. European Parliament Vice President Pina Picierno welcomed her at the port, saying no regime, including China's, can dictate who is hosted in Ventotene.
