Italian Lawmakers Visit Taiwan

President Lai Ching-te says Taiwan is looking to deepen economic and cultural links with Italy. He made the remarks when receiving the largest ever Italian parliamentary delegation to Taiwan. Lai says Italy is Taiwan’s fourth largest trading partner in the European Union. He said he hopes to expand industrial cooperation between the two sides. The 10-member group is led by the vice president of the Italian Senate. The delegation is here until Saturday, and will meet with officials from several ministries to exchange views on bilateral ties and cross-strait issues.
Taiwan and Italy have complementary manufacturing sectors, Lai said. The country has long been a friend to Taiwan and pays close attention to maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific region, he added. This is the largest-ever parliamentary delegation from Italy to visit Taiwan, arriving on Monday. The 10-member party is led by Italian Senate Vice President Gian Marco Centinaio, who is making his fifth visit to Taiwan. The delegation is in Taiwan until Saturday and will meet with officials from several government ministries and visit the south of the country.
