The Mandarin character for mountain is a pictograph based on physical representations of three mountain peaks standing together. Over time, the character evolved by simplifying the base and highlighting the central peak, resulting in the modern character we use today. Hebe and Becca are exploring Taiwan’s magnificent peaks (fēng), cliffs (yái), and gorges (xiá) along Hehuan Mountain and Thousand Island Lakes (qiān dǎo hú). Taiwan boasts over 200 mountains that exceed more than 3000 meters in height, making it the perfect place for hikers and mountain climbers. What did you think of Mr. Hiroshi’s mountaineering photography?
