Wood Radicals Represent the Beauty of Nature! - Explore With Mandarin Radicals Ep5

The Mandarin character for wood is a pictograph depicting the shape of a tree. The middle part represents the trunk with branches extending upwards on both sides and roots extending downwards. Modern characters containing the wood radical are typically related to trees or wooden products. The wood radical is also a standalone character. Two wood radicals mean the woods (lín). Add three more (sēn) and then all five make the compound word for forest (sēn lín). You’ll find that large Buttress Roots trees (dà bǎn gēn) have flat roots to keep them grounded. Look out for the plum blossoms (méi huā) in winter too!
