Hand Radicals Take Us on Many Adventures! - Explore With Mandarin Radicals Ep2

The Mandarin character for hand is a pictograph of the human hand. The image of a wrist with five slightly bent fingers eventually evolved into the current character with much easier lines. A less complex version is often written on the left side of high frequency characters for convenience. You’ll find this radical in our fingers (shǒu zhǐ) and palms (shǒu zhǎng). You can also use it to express all the things we can do with our hands: throw (tóu), grab (zhuā), clap (pāi) whack (dǎ), strike (jí), insert (chā), massage (àn mó), and pray (bài). Were you able to keep up with the traditional Taiwanese finger puppets (zhǎng zhōng xì)? Let us know in the comments below.
