Seoul Targets Mid-2030s Nuclear Submarine Launch
South Korea says it plans to launch its first nuclear-powered submarine in the mid-2030s amid ongoing tensions with North Korea. The United States agreed late last year to support Seoul in developing the submarines, marking a major step in defense cooperation between the allies. The announcement came after Seoul said North Korea test-fired an unidentified object earlier Tuesday. If confirmed as a missile launch, it would be Pyongyang’s first since April.
