Australia Readies Court Action Against Big Tech Over Social Media Ban
Australia is threatening legal action against major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube for failing to enforce its social media ban for children under the age of 16. The law, introduced last year to protect mental health in young people, could lead to fines of up to US$34 million per violation. Tech companies argue that age verification is not always reliable.
