Netflix Brings '#MeToo' and LGBTQ Rights to Light in Taiwan
As the world celebrates Pride Month, Taiwan Talks looks at the progress the country has made on LGBTQ rights since legalizing same-sex marriage in 2019. We also take a deep dive into the struggles that remain around gender equality. These issues were explored in "Wave Makers," Taiwan’s latest Netflix hit. The show played a pivotal role in giving momentum to the country’s unfolding "#MeToo" movement by highlighting sexual harassment in politics. The protagonist in "Wave Makers" is an openly lesbian politician who fights to bring justice to victims. Our guests are: Miao Po-ya - Taipei City Councilor (SDPT) and long-time activist.
