Exclusive: Taiwan’s Top Human Rights and Transitional Justice Official
On the 76th anniversary of the 228 Incident where Republic of China Nationalist soldiers violently murdered civilians in the anti-government uprising throughout Taiwan, Semaylay i Kakubaw, Taiwan Executive Yuan Department of Human Rights and Transitional Justice Director General, speaks exclusively to Taiwan Talks on how the government is promoting education that teaches the atrocities from the events around February 27, 1947, to ensure that such a tragedy will not repeat itself. He also details how his department is ensuring that justice is realized, from identifying perpetrators to restoring the rights of victims of state terror and their families.
