Fresh comments from US officials following the Trump-Xi summit in Beijing are drawing close attention in Taiwan. US President Donald Trump described potential arms sales to Taiwan as a “good negotiating chip,” while other officials stressed that long-standing US policy remains unchanged. Taiwan has been waiting for months for Trump to approve a US$14 billion arms package aimed at strengthening its defenses against China.
