Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council says five more Taiwanese citizens have been reported missing in China over the past week. Two others had their freedom restricted. Since January 2024, 426 Taiwanese have been reported missing, questioned or detained in China, Hong Kong and Macao. The update comes as China prepares to expand exit screening from September 15. Taiwan warns the measures are vague and highly arbitrary, potentially increasing risks for Taiwanese traveling to China.
