President Lai Ching-te is commending a fighter jet pilot for sacrificing his life for the nation.

Hsin Po-yi went missing in January when his F-16 fighter jet crashed into the sea during a routine night training exercise. His body was never found. Lai described Hsin as upright, resolute and devoted to his country, and issued him with an official commendation. Hsin's father accepted the award on his behalf, and a formation of fighter jets did an aerial salute overhead.
