President Backs Nuclear Safety, While Firms Call for Carbon Fees Delay
For World Earth Day, President Lai Ching-te has assured environmental groups that the country will only return to using nuclear energy if it's guaranteed to be safe, has proper waste storage and social consensus. Meanwhile, the country's first carbon fee kicks in this May, but some firms are asking to push them back due to impacts from the Middle East oil crisis.
