Taiwan’s foreign ministry is again challenging the International Monetary Fund’s description of Taiwan as a “Province of China” following an update to the IMF’s World Economic Outlook. The fund has listed Taiwan under “Advanced Asia” using that designation, while categorizing China under “Emerging and Developing Asia.” Taiwan’s foreign ministry previously objected to the wording in 2020. It is now urging the international financial organization to remain neutral and create opportunities for Taiwan to contribute to its global goals.
