Taiwan Seeks Answers Over Passport Seizures, Entry Denials in Uganda

Taiwanese travelers are being cautioned against traveling to Uganda after reports that some citizens had their passports seized or were denied entry. The foreign ministry says the move could be related to Taiwan's suspension of visas for Ugandan nationals in June over an Ebola outbreak, but it is seeking answers from the African country.

Uganda Denies Taiwan Entry

Taiwan's foreign ministry says it is seeking answers from Uganda after reports that Taiwanese citizens had their passports taken away and were denied entry to the country earlier this month.

The ministry said that the move could be related to Taiwan's suspension of visas to Ugandan nationals in June due to an Ebola outbreak. Taiwan does not have a diplomatic mission in Uganda, but it says its representative office in Somaliland and the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Uganda will provide assistance to those affected. Uganda declared an end to its Ebola outbreak in late July.
