Taiwan's Legislature has passed amendments that will delay the statute of limitations for sex crimes involving minors until the victims turn 20. The change is intended to give them more time to pursue legal action against sexual assault that occurred when they were underage.

The change is expected to give victims more time to pursue legal action against sexual assault that occurred when they were minors. The current legislation counts the statute of limitations from the date of assault. The Cabinet and Judiciary said sexual assault crimes may be reported late because of psychological trauma, being unaware of legal rights, or continued contact with the perpetrator.
