Taiwan’s government plans to establish 9,000 inspection points around schools to monitor areas where students are thought to gather and use drugs. Authorities are looking to enhance intelligence sharing between schools and police, alongside employing retired military and police officers for security. However, a student-led NGO emphasizes that efforts must also prioritize drug consultation and support.

The government is cracking down on drug use near schools, which it says is a growing problem.

 

Minister Without Portfolio Chi Lien-cheng says 9,000 inspection points will be set up around schools to monitor places where students are known to gather and use drugs. Authorities are also looking to share intelligence between schools and police and to use retired military or police officers for campus security. A student-led NGO says efforts should go beyond enforcement to include consultation, addiction support and protection for student rights.
