Beijing has slapped fines worth millions of dollars on Taiwan-headquartered Far Eastern Group for violations at the company’s factories in China. While the penalties are officially over a series of breaches relating to safety and tax issues, Bejing has also made it clear that politics played a key role in the decision. Bing Wang explains.
