Taiwan Pride is in full swing every year on the last Saturday of October. Join the action with Jenny Luo and find out what all the buzz is about! Taiwan Pride is the largest LGBTQ pride event in East Asia. Every year, the event attracts people from all over the world to Taipei to celebrate freedom and human rights. This year, host Jenny Luo attended the parade and asked participants what LGBT pride means to them. Peace, love and freedom from oppression are all popular reasons to join the movement. Same-sex marriage became legal for Republic of China (Taiwan) citizens in 2019, making it the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. In 2023, citizens gained the right to transnational same-sex marriage, and joint adoption of genetically unrelated children was also legalized. What’s next for Taiwan? Transgender people still face legal barriers to gender recognition and are actively seeking greater public engagement with transgender issues. By standing up and speaking out for the rights of LGBTQ people, Taiwan Pride brings us one step closer to the freedoms we all deserve. So, would you attend Taiwan Pride? Come join us for the festivities in October 2024!
