Taiwan's Food Delights - September Winds Delicacies Ep18
The ninth lunar month is the best time to grow persimmons in one of Taiwan’s Hakka strongholds, Hsinchu. The perseverance of the Hakka people is demonstrated through the community’s continued survival. Sinpu persimmon farmer concurs, "when our ancestors settled here 170 years ago, they didn't know that there was almost no rain. In such a difficult environment, God still rewarded us with a bite of food." Today it has become one of Taiwan’s best-known desserts, along with the city’s rice noodles.
