Wild Birds: White-Eared Sibia and Steere’s
This is Taiwan’s endemic bird species — the Taiwan barwing. The red berries on which it feeds are also endemic to Taiwan, the Viburnum plicatum. Many other endemic birds in Taiwan love them as well, such as Steere’s liocichla and the white-eared sibia (白耳畫眉). At the end of every summer, in Taiwan’s mountain forests, the feast takes place without fail. Those invited to attend include almost all the world’s laughingthrushes, which live exclusively on the island of Taiwan. These birds’ relationship with plants are an epitome of Taiwan’s mountain forest ecosystem.
