The Divine Power of Paper
In 2013, Tsai Cheng-he was the boss of a struggling consultancy. He wanted a figurine of one of the divine generals that guard deities in Taiwan temples, but could not afford one. After attempting to carve one out of wood, he instead decided to use the stacks of old court papers littering his office and create a figurine out of paper mache. Making use of his degree in architecture, he spent hours constructing the figurines each day. As a result, his struggling office became his studio.
