Trump Confirms Taiwan Was Mentioned in Talks With Xi After Differing Readouts

As Chinese President Xi Jinping leaves Washington after several days of meetings with US President Donald Trump, it's unclear how important Taiwan was on the agenda. A Chinese readout has Xi calling on Trump to actively oppose Taiwan independence. But while Trump says Taiwan did come up in talks, the US handout doesn't mention Taiwan at all.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he discussed Taiwan with Chinese President Xi Jin-ping.  

The Chinese readout said Xi urged Trump to oppose Taiwanese independence. The current US posture is not promoting it. Trump said Taiwan did come up, and that Xi understands his position on the issue. Taiwanese officials say the meeting did not change US policy towards Taiwan.
