On Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard commissioned a new vessel, a former Taiwan coast guard ship donated for civilian maritime use.

The BRP Sarangani was originally built for Taiwan's coast guard as a 500-ton class vessel, the Kinmen. The donation was facilitated by the We Protect our Seas Foundation, a Philippine NGO focused on maritime disputes in the South China Sea. The two sides have continued to deepen cooperation on security issues in the region, including disputed waters and illegal incursions by Chinese vessels.
