Villagers in Borneo Paid To Photograph Wildlife Instead of Hunting

Indonesian villagers in Borneo are being paid to photograph wildlife as part of a conservation program designed to make rare species more valuable alive than dead. Villagers can earn around US$0.50 for a single photo of a wild songbird, compared with around US$3 for physically capturing and selling the bird in the past.
