Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako also attended the ceremony. Earlier, Takaichi sent an offering to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine, which honors Japan’s war dead, including convicted war criminals.

Japan’s emperor and empress were also at the event. Earlier, Takaichi sent an offering to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine. Among the war dead honored at the shrine are leaders convicted of war crimes.
