Taiwan is acting to secure the global semiconductor supply chain by announcing new international standards.

Lin Yi-jing (DIGITAL MINISTER):
We worked with SEMI and TSMC
to promote and lay down
the SEMI E187 cybersecurity standard.
We require all manufacturers across
the semiconductor supply chain
to meet certain cybersecurity standards
to ensure hackers cannot use so-called
supply-chain or stepping-stone attacks
by first infiltrating one part of the supply chain
and then using it to attack TSMC
or other major semiconductor companies.

REPORTER:
Taiwan developed this cybersecurity standard for chip suppliers. It aims to prevent hackers from planting malware in equipment before it reaches chipmakers like TSMC through supply chain partners. Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry is now the world's first lab certified to test for compliance with the standard.
