Taiwan Beats China in Baseball, Nabs Bronze in Esport at 2026 Asian Games

Taiwan's athletes continue to claim glory at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. On Friday, the baseball team beat China 9-1 in the super round, and will next play Japan. The esport team secured its second medal at the games. Player Kuo Tzu-ang finished third in the Puyo Puyo Championships.

Taiwan secured a victory against China in the baseball super round at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on Friday. The team beat China 9-1 with its starting pitcher Wang Yan-cheng allowing just one run over seven innings.  

Tang Teng-kai (BASEBALL TEAM HEAD COACH):  
At the start of the game, everyone was a bit tense.  
Of course, [pitcher Wang] Yan-cheng  
was not that consistent at the beginning either.  
It had been a while  
since he last played an international tournament.  
His last one was the Hangzhou Asian Games.  
Playing internationally is different from the regular season  
so he was probably a little nervous.  
But overall, I think he performed pretty well.  

REPORTER:  
The team faces Japan on Saturday and will need a big win with at least six runs to keep its hope of reaching the gold-medal game alive.  

Now this is not the day’s only victory for Team Taiwan. Earlier on Saturday, in esport, Kuo Tzu-ang bagged a bronze in Puyo Puyo Champions, a puzzle game. This puts him behind Japan’s Kurihara Yuki, who won gold, and silver medalist Kang Dongshin from South Korea, and it brings Taiwan’s total medal count to 24.
