Taiwan President Lai Ching-te is highlighting renewable energy and energy security as the island debates how to meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence and the semiconductor industry. Speaking at the opening of Energy Taiwan, a major energy and carbon reduction fair, Lai said Taiwan ranks fifth globally in total installed offshore wind capacity. He pledged continued efforts to expand green energy storage, improve grid infrastructure and promote energy conservation to ensure a stable power supply. Lai also called on local businesses to reduce their carbon footprints, saying companies need to pay for emissions starting this year.
