Taiwan has launched its 32nd annual nuclear safety exercise at the retired Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant in New Taipei's Wanli District, testing drone interception for the first time. State-run energy utility Taipower deployed security personnel armed with signal jammers to neutralize simulated drone threats targeting diesel oil containers, alongside compound disaster responses simulating earthquake and tsunami supply disruption. Officials emphasize that despite the reactors being deactivated, maintaining multi-layered backup systems remains critical while spent nuclear fuel is transitioned into outdoor dry storage.
