Taiwan election authorities have rejected the candidacies of 11 China-born individuals seeking to run in upcoming local elections, citing eligibility requirements tied to Chinese household registration. Among those disqualified is former Taiwan People’s Party Legislator Li Chen-hsiu, whose bid for Zhubei mayor was rejected after she failed to provide proof that she had given up her Chinese household registration at least 10 years ago. China-born You Zhi-bin was also barred from running for Taipei city council for the same reason. Meanwhile, 14 China-born candidates have met the legal requirements and remain in the race.
