Taiwan Raises US$9.5 Million for Kumamoto Earthquake Relief

Taiwan has raised about US$9.5 million in donations for Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, which was hit by a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in late July.

People in Taiwan have raised around 9 and a half million US dollars for earthquake relief for Kumamoto, Japan.

Time after time, we see Japan and Taiwan come together when they need each other the most.  
This time is no exception.  
We have taken action to transmit Taiwan’s warmth to accompany Kumamoto during this difficult time.

REPORTER:  
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Kumamoto in late July killing at least 38 people. Three days after the earthquake, Taiwan’s government established a platform to donate to relief efforts. The government itself donated $150,000 US dollars for reconstruction, while the rest came from private donations.

Three days after the earthquake, Taiwan’s government established a donation platform for people to send relief to the affected area. The government itself donated $150,000 US dollars for reconstruction, with the rest coming from private donations. Taiwan’s foreign ministry held a donation ceremony mark the achievement on Thursday.
