Taiwan is moving forward with its plans to set up a privately funded academy for drone pilots from its Pacific allies. On Tuesday, the foreign ministry said it plans to register the Global UAV Academy or GUAVA, next week. Once in operation, the academy aims to train up to 30 drone pilots from Palau, Tuvalu, and the Marshall Islands at a time. These pilots will then return home to help train others. The ministry’s announcement comes amid a diplomatic push in Taiwan to build drone resilience at home and abroad.

Taiwan's foreign ministry said Tuesday it is stepping up its drone diplomacy push with allies and like-minded countries. The ministry is helping in setting up a privately funded Taiwanese NGO, the Global UAV Academy, aimed at building drone resilience among the country's diplomatic allies. The academy plans to open offices in Taipei and Chiayi County before the end of this year. Pilots from Palau, the Marshall Islands and Tuvalu will be trained in Taiwan, up to 30 at a time, then return home as seed teachers.
