Paraguay's President Reaffirms Alliance With Taiwan on Anniversary
Paraguayan President Santiago Peña has reaffirmed his country's alliance with Taiwan as the two countries mark 69 years of diplomatic relations. Paraguay remains one of Taiwan's 12 formal diplomatic allies and its only ally in South America. The reaffirmation follows comments from Paraguay's foreign minister expressing openness to trade with China, provided it does not affect ties with Taiwan.

President Lai Ching-te is offering condolences for US Senator Lindsey Graham, remembering him as a “true friend of Taiwan.”
Graham died at age 71 on Saturday after a sudden illness. The Republican from South Carolina had served in Congress for over three decades. A statement from Taiwan’s Presidential Office noted that he had been a strong supporter of peace in the Taiwan Strait and Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities. He visited Taiwan 3 times, most recently in 2022.
