REPORTER:

President Lai Ching-te says Taiwan is committed to deepening its diplomatic relations with Guatemala and further strengthening agricultural and trade ties.

Lai Ching-te (TAIWAN PRESIDENT):

Guatemala is now Taiwan’s largest supplier of cane sugar and its fourth-largest supplier of coffee.

This shows that high-quality agricultural products from Guatemala have become a part of Taiwanese people’s daily lives.

In the future, we will continue to encourage more Taiwanese businesses to use Guatemala as an important hub for expanding into the Latin American market.

Lai was speaking with Guatemalan Congressional Speaker Luis Alberto Contreras Colindres in Taipei. Contreras said his country’s congress will remain a loyal friend of Taiwan. Guatemala is one of Taiwan’s 12 remaining diplomatic allies.
