Taiwan's foreign ministry says it has not received any reports of Taiwanese passport holders being refused entry into Kenya, following media reports suggesting otherwise.

Taiwan's foreign ministry says it has not received any reports of Taiwanese passport holders being refused entry into Kenya.

The ministry was responding to a Kenyan Times report in which a local official said the country does not recognize Taiwanese passports as it adheres to Beijing’s "one China policy."

It comes after two Taiwanese passport holders were barred from entering Kenya for an environmental conference last month. Taiwan's foreign ministry said Kenya detained them for 20 hours before having them deported.

Last month, two Taiwanese academics were not allowed to enter Kenya to attend a conference on ocean environmentalism. Taiwan's foreign ministry accused Kenya of detaining them for 20 hours then deporting them. The Kenya Times quoted a Kenyan official saying that the country follows its "one China policy" and does not recognize Taiwanese passports.
