Taiwan Pushing For Deeper Economic Ties With the Philippines
Taipei is pushing for more economic cooperation with Manila. It says trade and investment is most important and that it wants more investment partnerships in the Philippines with Japan and the US.

Taiwan is pushing for more economic collaboration with the Philippines.

Taiwan-Philippines ties cannot be built solely on shared values or democratic values or shared security threats. They should be built on shared prosperity. Trade and investment is most important as well as a so-called reliable supply chain.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung says Taiwan considers the Philippines to be as important as one of its diplomatic allies, but economically, the countries aren’t very close yet. Lin is calling on more investment, particularly in partnership with the US and Japan. He made the comments at a press event with the head of Taiwan’s national aid agency, who said technology and AI is an expanding focus of the country’s aid.

For this reason, TaiwanICDF is working with partners to develop one of the first large-scale AI computing and data centers in the Global South. Our objective is the ensure that more countries can participate in opportunities created by the next wave of innovation.

They also said Taiwan has transformed from an aid recipient to a contributor, and is working to help other countries become more resilient.
