Tjimur Dancers Tells Stories from the Paiwan People - Yosifu's Cultural Canvas Ep4
Tjimur’s Indigenous modern dance starts by taking part in Paiwan village life. A dancer’s greatest quality is becoming a body that can tell the stories which have profoundly impacted their dance styles. True choreography emerges as soon as the community joins hands, and the Elders lead the village in song. The distinct rhythm that emerges from these rituals, weddings, and harvest festivals has since inspired several internationally acclaimed productions. Yosifu organizes an outdoor dance workshop to perform a river ceremony in tribute to Qatiyan, ancestral lands where the Paiwan interacted with other groups on the journey from Sandimen to Shuimen. This is followed by a shell ginger weaving demonstration to appreciate an important symbol of life, prosperity, and reverence for the ancestors within the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Paiwan people.
