The Starry Skies: Summer's Milky Way at Mobito, Kenting

Clear waters, blue skies, and palm trees, this is Kenting National Park, in the far south of Taiwan. Kenting is also known as East Asia's Hawaii because they both have high mountains, and low latitudes. The sun sets, and the stars begin to appear. Many people miss this view as they head for dinner. But if you lie down on a viewing deck in Maobitou park, you can see the Milky Way stretching northward. The Ancient Chinese saw it as a river flowing in the sky, the “Silver River” or “Sky River.” As the Earth rotates, the Milky Way moves westwards, until dawn breaks! And then it is time to sunbathe at the beach!
