The 30th edition of the RIMPAC military exercises is officially underway in Honolulu, marking the largest iteration to date with a record 31 countries participating. Hosted by the US Pacific Fleet, this year's joint drills focus on amphibious operations, air defense and uncrewed systems testing. South Korea takes command of the maritime component for the first time, while China remains excluded since 2018. Despite a reduced US presence due to a focus on resolving the conflict in the Middle East, officials emphasize the strength of international coalition partners as regional security concerns grow.
