Meta has agreed to pay around US$18 billion to settle a lawsuit over teenage social media addiction. The settlement will also mean stricter access limits and stronger safeguards for younger users on Facebook and Instagram in the US.
Meta Settles Teen Safety Lawsuit
Meta has settled a US lawsuit over young people’s social media addiction for nearly $18 billion US dollars.
The landmark settlement will see the tech giant make major changes on access to Facebook and Instagram. Changes include a two-hour daily limit for teenagers, overnight restrictions and stronger safeguards against age-restricted content. The agreement applies to most US states.

Meta has openly called on other social media platforms TikTok and YouTube to adopt the new rules “right away.”
