A new cancer vaccine is effective at preventing the spread and recurrence of melanoma in late-stage trials. Moderna and Merck worked together on the treatment, which was combined with Merck's immunotherapy drug for melanoma.

Moderna announced that a personalized vaccine appeared to stop melanoma from returning or spreading. The vaccine was used with Merck’s immunotherapy drug, commonly used to treat melanoma, providing better outcomes than just using the drug alone. The companies are continuing trials on other types of cancer.
