Nvidia is in talks to invest up to US$3 billion in SB Energy, a subsidiary of Japan’s SoftBank Group that plans to build a massive data center for OpenAI, according to tech media outlet The Information. The 10-gigawatt facility in Ohio is described by the US government as the world’s biggest. Nvidia had originally planned to provide a US$250 billion guarantee for the project. But the Wall Street Journal reports that the guarantee has been roughly halved amid investor concerns. Nvidia has already committed more than US$70 billion to investments in AI companies as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow rapidly.
