Microsoft Cuts 4,800 Jobs as Xbox Restructures
Xbox Workforce Restructuring
REPORTER:
Microsoft is cutting thousands of jobs as it restructures its Xbox gaming business.
The company says it will eliminate 4,800 positions worldwide, including 3,200 in gaming.
The cuts come after years of heavy investment, including Microsoft’s blockbuster purchase of video game holding company Activision Blizzard in 2023. Microsoft has been cutting down its workforce to pay for its AI investments, but says the terminated staff are not being replaced by AI. The move comes as big tech companies face pressure to show returns from massive AI spending.
