Imagine this: strong liquor in your morning coffee. It may sound like an Irish coffee, but in Taiwan’s outlying islands of Matsu, there’s a barista who makes it with kaoliang – distilled from sorghum. And yet it’s alcohol-free!
In the latest installment of "Where's Matsu’s County Chief Taking Us," Andrew Ryan visits a local distillery that stores kaoliang in an old military tunnel. Plus: a visit to a modern bistro that makes a craft beer with honeysuckle inspired by a beloved Belgian nun.

[Taiwan’s Mayors and County Chiefs]
Taiwan is home to 13 county chiefs, six mayors of special municipalities (New Taipei, Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung) and three mayors of provincial cities. These elected officials serve a maximum four-year term, and can be re-elected for one additional term. The first episodes of the series aired prior to local elections in 2022.
