Taiwan Encourages International Chip Firms To Localize Operations

Taiwan is seeking deeper ties with international semiconductor companies as it prepares to host SEMICON Taiwan, its largest semiconductor industry event. SEMI says Taiwan wants major international chip companies to manufacture and conduct research locally, helping strengthen domestic suppliers and connect them with global partners.

Taiwan is looking to deepen international ties in its chip industry as it gears up to hold its largest semiconductor industry event, SEMICON.
REPORTER:
SEMICON officials say having international companies set up shop in Taiwan can help boost local R&D and manufacturing, strengthening local suppliers. They say Taiwan has many so-called “hidden champions” in the tech supply chain that could benefit from working with global partners.

We’ve found that
Taiwan actually has so many hidden champions
especially in the materials industry
because many of them aren’t companies
worth hundreds of billions or even trillions.
They’re not particularly large companies
but they have their own unique expertise
they may be the best in their particular field
but they don’t necessarily get noticed.
